There are several options to consider but sadly most are quite difficult for Ex-Pats, especially if you don’t speak Spanish. There are very few options for English speaking care but HCP Home Care Adeje is a one place to start. There are other options but you need to face head on what your circumstances COULD be and think hard before that time comes about what you want out of life, including possibly going back to the UK or your home country.
If you need care at home, you will be entitled if you have paid into the system long enough but you will be lucky if they are fluent in English and it frankly won’t be enough.
If you have paid into the system in Tenerife long enough, you have live in options but VERY few English speaking. If you are considering this option, check your entitlement careful and visit one or two to see how you feel about it.
If you are not yet in need of a live-in retirement home, you may be able to manage by “throwing money at it” as the saying goes. You will need the services of a qualified nurse, a cleaner, interpreter, “companion” if you need a wheelchair and want to get out for a coffee, drink or meal now and again and don’t forget someone to prepare meals, wash up, change and wash bed-clothea and so on.
Island Home Care began in the North of Tenerife and soon realised there was a great demand in the South. Their register of services should cover most or all of your needs. They do NOT provide nursing services but specialise in bringing people together – those with various needs like cleaning, bed changes, meals, hospital trips, social outings, companions – and people who can meet those needs.
If you own your own property you could consider offering a permanent position with accommodation to someone who can meet your needs. There are 2 very different options. If you need 24 hour care you will need to include 2 additional people, ie you will need a total of 3 people to cover 3 x 8 hour shifts as you cannot expect 1 person to cover 24/7. At that point you should be considering a nursing home perhaps.
As with the 2 bed option but this actually offers opportunities for your carer to expande their hours, look after a second person, put additional support in place. It also makes for more of a social atmosphere where you can support each other.

You can buy anything from the bakery and sit in Cafe Verin next door and eat it – no problem as long as you buy coffee or a drink from them.

The bar is located opposite the Hotel Gala and we visited the Irish Oak on a number of occasions during our stay for drinks and food.
All of the staff are warm and very welcoming, in particular Wesley and Sue who served us breakfast a few times
The quality of food and service is fantastic and a great menu with plenty of choice
The bumper fry up is to die for and sets you up for the full day.

Wow, such a lovely new restaurant for Los Abrigos. The food is beautiful. We had poppadoms with chutney to start. We then had chicken tikka biryani and chicken tikka shashlik with a cheese naan bread. The chicken was sooooo tender, it just melted in your mouth. As a Los Abrigos resident, we will certainly be back again. Thank you to all the staff for a great experience.

The range of Canary Island cheeses is vast. Each of the seven islands has its particular variety. The most outstanding examples are the Majorero Cheeses from Fuerteventura.
The cheese made in Tenerife is usually prepared from goat’s milk, although sometimes it is mixed with sheep or cow’s milk. Usually a fresh cheese but we can also find the smoked varieties.
Manchego is identifiable by the zigzag pattern that is etched into its rind. In Spain, this goat’s milk cheese is washed in red wine during the aging process giving the rind a deep burgundy color, flowery aroma and buttery flavor. This is known as Drunken Goat.

This 2 bedroom traditional property has a large private garden, BBQ, hot tub, own entrance & parking near San Miguel de Abona.
If you want a real Canarian experience, yet with all the comforts of home, plus your own hot tub, come and stay in our pretty rural authentic Canarian house on one level built from traditional stone dating approximately from 1890 on the outskirts of the lovely old town of San Miguel de Abona in south Tenerife, 550 metres above sea level.
The house, which sleeps a maximum of 3 people, is comfortably furnished in a rustic style with character wooden beamed ceilings and cool whitewashed walls. Its spacious layout offers 2 bedrooms (1 double, 1 single), newly renovated shower room with rainfall shower head, lounge/dining room and a separate fully equipped kitchen with a quirky cave like feel leading from a central hallway. The house has all the home comforts you need.
Outside, our guests are able to enjoy their own enclosed private south facing garden which is on 3 levels. The top level has a table and 4 chairs with an umbrella plus a rustic style BBQ for alfresco dining and on the middle level are sun loungers and umbrella.
This area is a real sun trap! On the lower level we have created a relaxing chillout area with seating and a corner pergola incorporating a misting system, perfect for cooling off in hot weather. Guests have their own separate entrance so are able to come and go as they please plus free parking directly outside the property.
Ideally suited to couples and is perfect for those seeking a relaxing holiday away from the tourist resorts as this is a quiet rural residential area. It’s a great get-away-from-it-all honeymoon destination too. Relax on your sun lounger during the day and when the sun goes down, enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine in the chill out area before savouring a romantic BBQ in the garden or take a stroll up to the village to sample traditional Canarian cuisine or tapas in the local restaurants, cafés and bars. For homeworkers, there’s fast free WiFi plus plenty of space to work in. For those who need it, there can be 2 separate workspaces (one in the lounge/dining room plus one in the 2nd bedroom) with access to power sources and good natural lighting. Or set your laptop up in the garden, even better! Switch on the coffee machine and you’re good to go …
This isn’t a modern villa, but a charming old character property built in 1890. A heater can be provided in cold weather or a fan in summer for an extra fee. Although there are 2 bedrooms, we can only accommodate 3 people as there is only wardrobe space in the single room.

Not everyone has the time to book a course without first getting a taste of scuba diving. We offer try diving programs for non-certified divers. You will be under our guidance and follow the highest of safety standards.

The restaurant itself was very busy in the evening so we struggled to find a table. As well, the sauce bucket had a mini pair of scissors ! It was a comedic and functional touch. Food wait was good with the knowledge that they were very busy. The deep fried scampi was not overcooked at all, and was v almost juicy in my mouth but not in any way sludgy. The steak with the chef’s special paté looked succulent and plated nicely. The restaurant also had multiple TVs, which played English news channels. They also play live sport some days. A good family friendly restaurant!

What exactly is a “Boletin”?
A boletin is an electrical installation certificate for low voltage, or “Certificado de Instalación Eléctrica de baja tension”, most commonly referred to simply as a “boletin”. Your electrician should be able to tell you when and if you require a new boletin.
For properties built after 2002 a boletin can usually be issued without the need for any upgrade to the electrical installation. For properties built before 2002 work is usually required to bring the electrical installation up to the current standard of the Spanish electrical regulations.
