While looking for a resort in Tenerife, of course we all think first about the weather – is good weather important to you during the trip? Certain areas of Tenerife areas have quite predictable weather year round.
Alcala enjoys warm weather all year round. The west side of tend to be influenced greater by the moist Gulf Stream, so it’s wetter and greener.
This pretty fishing village on the south west coast of Tenerife has enjoyed a huge rise in popularity since the 5 star Gran Melia Palacio de Isora Hotel was built. It has retained much of its Canarian charm – stroll around the small fishing harbour and picturesque main square. Try and visit during local fiestas.
Alcala has a great range of quality restaurants with an emphasis on traditional fish, seafood and tapas but also has come contemporary options.
Playa La Arena
A good place to stay to relax is the nearby Playa La Arena, a very quiet and picturesque town technically in Santiago del Teide and close to Los Gigantes also. It is a very exotic black sand beach about 120 meters long. Divers will find a natural paradise on the seabed of La Arena beach . Its crystal clear waters and the shallow depth of the sea make this beach one of the main dive centers on the island.
When checking out excursions, if you are based in the resort of Alcala, be aware that many excursion companies pick up from your hotel in the popular resorts. Many of the cheaper trips, including the free trips, require you to make your own way there or to the nearest pick up point.
Alcala boasts an attractive sand beach but being black volcanic sand, is not rated particularly highly among beach lovers.
Nightlife outside of the main hotel is very low key all year round except during local fiestas.
