Other shops may be a reasonable size but are usually more expensive with a smaller product range. However Mercadona is less flexible on opening hours, closing on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

In the South of Tenerife there are 9 Mercadona stores of which 6 are likely to be handy for holidaymakers. These are Adeje, Las Americas, Arona and for those visiting The Golf, Las Chafiras.

Mercadona maintains lowish prices but their business model is to have a limited range, so you will find more choice in a similar sized Hiperdino and the prices are not so different.

Personally we do most of our shopping at Lidl and Mercadona. Only a few bits from Hiperdino that you can’t get elsewhere. Main thing from Hiperdino is meat when they have their offers on fillet/sirloin steak, as cut to order and good quality. I find it is more expensive but carry a wider variety of products. Mercadona’s range is not as wide as it was before Covid and seem to do more own brand stuff now. Lidl tends to be our main shop as good prices.

Hiperdino Las Chafiras has a better selection than Mercadona in the same area but I find it a bit dearer
